The notion that a snake could suffer an abdominal 'rupture' from anything it managed to get past its jaws and down its throat strikes me as utterly absurd. It is far more likely someone killed the snake and then gutted it to see what was inside; the fact that it was headless appears to support this hypothesis.

The growing problem of exotic species naturalizing in new habitats worldwide is the larger story of course. Whether it is bacteria, fungi, zebra mussels or more 'newsworthy' predators such as pythons, the problem is far greater and more widespread than most people seem to realize.
